Egypt - "Midnight Sun": Full cd - UK

At first site a real nice cd with a beautiful booklet, a good looking website and a lot of gigs on the agenda. A total playing time of ±45 minutes, spread over 9 songs with 3 cover songs and 6 own material. From the first second, it is clear to me that these 3 gentlemen play straight rock. Singer/guitarplayer and songwriter Eric Chipulina is the man who makes the sound of Egypt. In general, the music of Egypt exists mainly out of short themes with a short lyric and a lot of guitar solos. The cd starts with the title song 'Midnight Sun'. This song meets all the criteria I just described. Eric is an all-round guitar player but when he starts his solos he begins with the climax. My advice is: play a solo that is build up constructively and work towards a climax! This constructive feedback is also my criticism for the 2 slow songs '12.01' en 'Worried Life Blues'. I think one must have a lot of technical- and creative capacities to keep so many guitar solos interesting. But Eric´s solos s can't keep my attention! With the covers of Johnny Winter and John Lee Hooker, respectively 'Mean Town Blues' and 'Worried Life Blues' I hear mostly rock/hard rock with simple bass and drums. However, Egypt play with a lot of passion and within their musical concept they sound like an uniform band. If you like straight rock with a lot of guitar solos just look and listen to Egypt.
